Junior School Community – Learning from each other

TIGS Junior School is a hive of activity. The talent, contributions and achievements of our young students have been celebrated through many events that have recently taken place. Junior School assemblies have started again, providing Kindergarten to Year 6 students with the opportunity to learn from each other and experience the School community as a whole. Student leadership, action, encouragement and reminders about expectations of our values are continually being highlighted by the Year 6 Captains, who are fulfilling their roles proudly.
Acknowledging hard work and excellent choices through weekly awards enables students to celebrate the achievements of their peers. The opportunity for every child to participate in our assemblies and Chapel services helps students to build confidence and showcase their learning in front of others. This week, Kindergarten students led their first assembly in front of an eager audience. It was delightful to see such confidence and skill as they shared their new discoveries and excitedly shared important messages.

Many Junior School events have also taken place that encourage connection across the school. R U OK? Day took place last Thursday where the Year 6 Captains organised events for students to participate in. The winner of the colouring in competition will be announced shortly! The ‘Babies Prom Concert’, a showcase of our Junior School instrumental ensembles expertly played for our Prep to Year 2 students. The younger students were inspired by their older peers and enjoyed learning about the different musical instruments being played. A big thank you to our music teachers, Mrs Hollander, Mrs Bonaccorso, Mrs Harris and our music tutors for organising such a fabulous event.
The PYP exhibition process is always a wonderful process that engages our School community. Year 6 students have been working hard to explore their research areas and identifying ways to take action. We thank you for your support and expert insight, for completing surveys and assisting your children with resources to help their plans become a reality. Students across the School, including the Senior School have had many opportunities to give their thoughts about the issues being explored. It is this collective effort that ensures our students feel supported and empowered to take action within our community and beyond. We look forward to the PYP Exhibition that is set to take place on Tuesday 18 October 2022.
Father’s Day Breakfast
Thank you to everyone who attended the Father’s Day Breakfast. It was the first after many years and the first for many of our families. We thank everyone involved who made this occasion a really important celebration and memory.
Book Week
Favourite characters came to life as the Junior School celebrated our love of reading. Magnificent costumes filled our classrooms and it was a wonderful celebration of fabulous books. A visit from Gus Gordon was a real highlight as he inspired our students to continue to love reading. A big thank you to Mrs Bowmaker and Mr Green for their efforts to ensure our book week was a huge success.
