Senior School students recently took to the stage in four sold-out performances of The Wizard of Oz, presenting a work that reflected not only creative and musical achievement, but also commitment and discipline.
Bringing a production of this scale to life requires far more than what audiences see on stage. This year’s performance involved more than 100 students across acting, music, technical production, stage management, and backstage roles, supported by staff, families and volunteers who contributed throughout months of preparation and rehearsal.
Under the direction of Ms Helen McLean and production of Mrs Erin Rowe, students engaged with one of the most enduring works of musical theatre, exploring themes of courage, heart, friendship and belonging. The production drew on both the original story and contemporary interpretations familiar to many students, combining live orchestral music, choreography, multimedia elements and technical production to create a thoughtful and engaging interpretation of Oz.
As Dorothy reminds us, “There’s no place like home”. For many students, the annual School Production is exactly that: a place to contribute, connect and grow, while being part of something larger than themselves.
