Why work at TIGS?

The Illawarra Grammar School is an employer that promotes staff excellence and offers a range of additional benefits.
The average service of a TIGS teacher is over 11 years. Our teams have a depth of experience, commitment to the School and supportive collegial relationships that lead to exceptional retention rates.

Professional Development

Professional development at Illawarra Grammar is a priority and well funded. The School also provides staff study grants to enable further postgraduate study. The Deputy Principal provides teacher accreditation support and guidance through the accreditation process.

Attractive Remuneration

We offer competitive salaries, and superannuation benefits of 11.5%. The School also provides many leadership opportunities for career advancements, and these opportunities usually attract a leadership allowance. A personal laptop is provided for all members of the teaching staff and current teaching resources are easily available to staff.

Salary Sacrifice Benefits

The School offers permanent staff a variety of salary sacrifice benefits including mobile phones that are exempt from FBT. In addition, all staff can contribute tax-effective additional superannuation contributions (above the compulsory Employer contribution).

Staff Health and Wellbeing

We care about the wellbeing of our staff and have a range of initiatives available. This includes an onsite influenza vaccination program free of charge. We also provide a comprehensive and independent Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Respectful and Friendly Students

Our students are known for their manners and respect, which allows teachers to concentrate on effective pedagogy rather than spending time on discipline issues. Class sizes are capped at 20 in Pre-K and Kindergarten, and at 24 from Year 1 onwards.

School Fee Concessions

The School offers generous fee reduction and priority enrolment to staff, with access to our before and after school care services. Please note: All staff benefits provided are subject to government regulation, School budgets, policies and the on-going approval of the School Council.

What our staff
have to say:

“I’ve been working at The Illawarra Grammar School since 2009 as a Junior School Coordinator and Teacher. The school has a unique, close-knit community where students, teachers and families connect and thrive together. The staff and students are always so caring, welcoming and inclusive. Each student is catered for with an individual program and learning journey. My family has been blessed to experience this first hand for our own children, with amazing results. Our Junior School students often express their gratitude for the vast array of specialist lessons and expert teachers on offer here and the incredible experiences they provide above and beyond a regular curriculum.”
Mrs Rebecca Young

Furthermore, it has always been a place where professional growth is encouraged and supported, making it an ideal environment for educators.”
Mr Todd Southcombe
“I have loved working at The Illawarra Grammar School for over 20 years. The collegial nature of the staff, the calm atmosphere in the classroom, where the students are dedicated to learning, and the privilege of being able to teach our content from a Christian perspective, make the school a delight to work at.”
