Tournament Of Minds results

September 16, 2022

Following on from their recent success at the Regional Finals of Tournament of Minds, it was with pride that our STEM and Social Science teams represented not only TIGS, but the South Coast region on Sunday 11 September at the NSW Finals at UNSW.

Both teams had only three hours to read, plan, prepare and solve a challenge in their specific discipline. Working to a set criteria in a short time frame was very difficult and required advanced problem-solving skills.

The STEM team, consisting of Pranav Mathiazhagan, Akilan Kumaresan, Arya Mahantesh, Ideen Hashemi, Mahasvin Dev, Rohan Manshani and Arya Patil were required to build a device to shield showers of debris, make a digital presentation explaining how and share their solution in a creative dramatic performance.

The Social Science team members were Evie Rahim, Thomas Binks, Ethan Tierney, Luca Attorre, Leo Kalsi, Elliot Phelan and Harry Coates. They were challenged to create a brand new award, and to write an acceptance speech for the winner of that award. Their presentation was full of wit and amazing accents with Ethan being Scottish, Thomas was British, and Luca was the most entertaining Aussie Ocker of all time.

Both teams also were involved in a short spontaneous challenge throughout the morning as well and although they were not victorious on the day, they were outstanding representatives for us all, receiving very positive comments on their respectful manners and positive attitude.

Thank you to both teams for your commitment and excellence.
