Todd Woodbridge Cup State Final

After qualifying all the way through the local and then regional stages of the Todd Woodbridge Cup, our Stage 2 Tennis team, led by supercoach, Mr Yeo, found themselves at the State Final, held at the Sydney Tennis Centre in Homebush. With the legend himself, Todd Woodbridge, in attendance on the day, our team of tennis players rose to the challenge and progressed all the way through to the grand final against Kenthurst Public School, losing  6 sets/125pts to 2 sets/87 points.

It was a magnificent effort to make it all the way to the State Grand Final and each player on the team should be proud of the way they played and the manner in which they represented the School.

Team: Ethan Bottele, Rayna Chieng, Charles Hughes, Alexandre Lahore-Lahitte, Michelle Li, Aurora McEvedy, Kirra Oxman, Xavier Pupovac-Hopper, Ari Quinn and Shiqi Wang. Coach: Mr Yeo

AICES U15 Tennis

On Thursday 23 November, Katie Lowe – Year 8, and Inez Leal – Year 7 travelled to Blacktown Tennis Centre to compete in the U15 Girls AICES Tennis Championships. Unfortunately Katie’s day finished early after rolling her ankle in the first match. Inez played with great prowess in the pool rounds, finishing her pool in the top 2 and progressing to the Championship round. In a closely contested match, Inez narrowly lost her Round of 9 match 4-3, and was knocked out of the tournament. It was however, an excellent result for someone who has only just taken up tennis and was playing against girls two years older than her. Congratulations to both Katie and Inez for their efforts on the day.

The boys were due to play the following day, but unfortunately their day was cancelled due to wet weather.

NASSA Year 7 Netball Gala Day

Eight students from Year 7 recently participated in the NASSA Year 7 Gala Day held on November 24 at Thomas Hassall Anglican College. Our girls showcased exceptional dedication and teamwork throughout the event, leaving a lasting impression as fine ambassadors for The Illawarra Grammar School.

The girls participated in a series of four games, and their growth and improvement was evident in each successive match, a testament to their relentless effort and commitment. It was truly heartening to witness their determination, as they never gave up and consistently demonstrated resilience on the court.

A noteworthy mention goes to Angelique McNeill and Amelia Murray, who played with unparalleled passion and dedication in every game. Their exceptional efforts did not go unnoticed, and they deserve special recognition for encouraging their team.

The team members were: Amelia Murray, Angelique McNeill, Zoe Feng, Lara Vujic, Zoe Grieve, Mikailey Grneski, Rubina, Matilda Vermey. Coach: Mrs Toland

NASSA Year 7-8 Cricket Gala Day

On Monday 27 November our Year 7/8 Cricket Team travelled to Penrith to compete in the NASSA Cricket Gala Day. Facing Broughton Anglican College, Georges River Grammar and Wollondilly Anglican College in their pool, TIGS progressed through all of their games undefeated, with Lachlan Rayner and Beau Sergeant dominating with the bat. Joe Sommerville and Wilson Makowski made it very hard for their opponents to score after some excellent bowling, taking plenty of wickets along the way. After finishing first in their pool, TIGS progressed to the Grand Final against Penrith Anglican College, who had won their pool. Penrith batted first and were restricted to 54 runs from 8 overs after some excellent bowling and fielding that saw PAC lose two wickets to run-outs. TIGS then went in to bat with Lachlan and Beau opening. Both were able to carry their bat through the innings, reaching the total with an over to spare. Congratulations to the boys for finishing as NASSA Champions!

Team: Jesse Bryers, Felix Loomes, Wilson Makowski, Buddy McLean, Abdul Munim, Archie Phillips, Remy Rayment-Shield, Lachlan Rayner, Beau Sergeant, Joe Sommerville and Owen Vardy. Coach: Dr Gollan
