Mr Adrian Deck - Head of Sport

Wiburd Shield

In the opening match of the Wiburd Shield inter school cricket competition on Friday, November 3, our TIGS cricket team went head-to-head against Shellharbour Anglican College (SAC). Despite putting up a valiant effort, SAC emerged victorious, displaying a commendable performance both with the bat and ball. SAC set an imposing target, amassing 249 runs from their 40 overs. Beau Sergeant (2/23 – 8 overs) and Buddy McLean (2/19 – 2 overs) both did well with the ball, taking two wickets each. Our team faced a formidable challenge during their innings. Isaac Turner (22) and Lachlan Rayner (24) both put on strong showings with the bat, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough, and TIGS was eventually bowled out for a total of 87 runs. Though the outcome may not have been in our favour this time, the match provided valuable lessons and insights for our cricketers.

State Netball

The TIGS Junior Netball team had the honour of being selected to compete in the NSW State Netball Cup Final last week. Throughout the day, the team participated in several closely contested games, demonstrating their prowess on the court and coming tantalizingly close to victory in some instances. Despite not securing a win, the players showcased commendable sportsmanship, resilience, and teamwork, earning admiration for their spirited efforts. A big thank you goes to Mrs Carswell for coaching the girls all the way to the State Final and to Ted Beedles for driving the bus and assisting with the umpiring throughout the day.

NASSA Basketball

The NASSA U15 and Year 7 Basketball Gala Day was held at the Hills Basketball complex on Friday 10 November. There was some outstanding basketball played throughout the day, and each of our four TIGS teams put on a strong showing. The U15 Girls finished as runners-up behind the formidable St Luke’s Grammar School, and exhibited commendable resilience and teamwork. The U15 Boys, competitive throughout the day, demonstrated great skill and a passion for the game, finishing the day in third place. Notably, the Year 7 teams impressed with their performances, considering many players were relatively new to basketball. The event provided valuable experience for these budding athletes, setting a positive tone for the future of basketball at TIGS. A big thanks to graduating Year 12 student, Oisin Garrett, and current Year 12 student, Elka Enbohm, for utilising their basketball prowess to coach the two Year 7 teams through the day. A big congratulations goes to Grace Lane, Robbie Lavalle, Aidan Cuda and Frederik Jaeger for being selected into the NASSA U16 Team to compete at the AICES Championships at the beginning of next year.

Illawarra District Netball Association (IDNA) –  TIGS Netball

TIGS Corrimal Rubies had an outstanding year in the IDNA competition, with each and every player growing immensely throughout the season. We had fun every single game, always having the best sportsmanship and grace. The girls skills improved significantly throughout the season and by the end were beating top of the ladder teams. They played their first ever gala day, which was extremely hot and exhausting, with several games in a row, and they showed incredible perseverance and determination to be the only team to score against the eventual winners. Unfortunately, we came one goal short of finals in the end, but were consistently praised by umpires, opponents, coaches and players for the girls compassion, honesty and improvement. We all look forward to seeing what they can accomplish next year. A big thank you to Miss Karina Dennis for coaching the team throughout the year. Thanks also goes to Rhiannon Evans (Year 12) and Sophie Bernie (Year 10) for their assistance with the training sessions.

Team: Juliet Bernie, Annabelle Bugg, Amy Cheng, Sophia Hernandez, Sabrina Liu, Yuxin (Claire) Liu, Lucy McLean, Mia Shen, Zhaoxin (Emma) Tian and Ava Tierney.
