Friendship across the years is something really special. It is an absolute delight to see our younger and older children engage in beautiful interactions as they develop their relationships with each other. Our programme provides structured and fluid times for these friendships to grow. There are many benefits to having a ‘buddy’ and the opportunities to engage together in and out of the classroom. Some of these include:

  • Building a positive character.
  • Building long-lasting relationships and developing social skills.
  • Developing positive wellbeing.
  • Creating a sense of belonging and connectedness.
  • Empowering students.

These are all really important factors that contribute to developing a healthy, confident community.

Home learning | purposeful and connected

Please refer to your child’s OLLE page and communication from your child’s teachers to view the home learning expectations.  You will find a variety of recommended tasks that reinforce the concepts and content covered in class. Home learning should not be new learning, rather an opportunity to review and refine skills. Our children have busy schedules and we understand that homework schedules need to be flexible. We encourage the completion of the selected tasks, as these are differentiated and specific to your child’s needs. Reading should take place every night and we thank you for ensuring that this occurs.

New Initiatives | Renaissance Reading programme

The Renaissance Reading Programme will be launched in Week 6 in Year 2 to Year 6 classrooms. This exciting programme provides data-driven, personalised reading practice to assist every student to become a flourishing reader, ready to succeed at all levels. It ensures reading comprehension growth. A component of the programme will form part of their home learning. Further information will be sent to you directly via email next week. This will contain pertinent details to assist your child at home. Please be sure to read this correspondence and make contact should you have any questions.

Kindergarten to Year 2 Literacy and Numeracy Evening | Tuesday 24 March at 5.00pm

Please be sure to attend this fabulous evening. Sessions include:

  • An introduction to THRASS, our approach in Year 2 to Year 6 – Teaching Handwriting, Reading and Spelling skills
  • Home Reading – How can I support my child at home?
  • Handwriting – So my child has messy handwriting….
  • Mathematics – Meaningful connections and new ways of learning mathematical concepts

 

Student Achievement

NASSA Swimming Carnival, Tuesday Night

Our students represented TIGS with confidence and commitment. It was wonderful to see the skills of our students and the way they encouraged and supported each other. Their sportsmanship was a credit to them and our school. Our students gave their best against strong competition. We had some wonderful results, which will be shared in next week’s Newsletter. Thank you to all of our fabulous parents, for making the trip to Sydney Olympic Park, and to our wonderful staff Mrs Dribbus, Mrs Martin and Mrs Worthington for their dedication to this event and the fabulous organisation.

HICES debaters

Congratulations to our Year 6 debaters who competed in their first debate in the HICES competition this week. Topic: “That meditation and mindfulness classes should be taught to all primary school students”. The negative won. Under the expert skills of Mrs Wallace, the teams performed with enthusiasm and confidence. A special mention to Aahan Rakheja who formulated and delivered an impressive 1st Speaker of the negative response. We are thrilled with their commitment and performance and looking forward to a great competition ahead. Watch this space!
