This week in the Junior School

June 17, 2022
Head of Junior School - Ms Geneva Clayton

With the school holidays fast approaching the Junior School has been buzzing with activity as we wrap up our learning before the break. We recently received an exciting update about our daVinci Decathlon team results. A few weeks ago our Year 5 and Year 6 teams placed first in the local competition which was hosted at The Illawarra Grammar School. Those exceptional results place our Year 5 team 8th out of 72 teams in NSW and our Year 6 team 16th out of 81 teams. With a focus on critical thinking across academic and creative subjects, the Decathlon gives students an exciting opportunity to apply their learning to the real world.

Two of our other co-curricular groups, the Mozart Strings and the Vivaldi Strings recently travelled to Nowra to compete in the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod. The hard work from this talented group of performers shone through and earned them first place in the competition. A big congratulations to you all!

Finally, on Thursday 23 June leaders in business, community and government will sleep outside without shelter to raise money for Vinnies to help those in Australia experiencing homelessness.

The Vinnies CEO Sleep Out raised $9.3 million dollars last year which helped provide beds, meals, individual support and mental health support for those doing it tough in Australia.

Emily Clark (Year 5) and Liam Clark (Year 3) along with their parents are sleeping out to support this wonderful initiative. Daniel Hernandez (Laura and Johanna’s Dad) is also taking part this year.

To support the efforts of the Clark and Hernandez families, we invite our students to wear a beanie to school on Friday 24 June for a gold coin donation.
