Hoskins Building: Overall Winner – Australian Timber Design Awards
The Illawarra Grammar School is delighted to announce that the Hoskins Building has been named the Overall Winner of the Australian Timber Design Awards 2026, following its success in winning the Public Building category earlier in the evening.
The national recognition places the Hoskins Building among Australia’s most celebrated contemporary building projects. In a field that included major developments such as the Sydney Fish Market and The Cutaway at Barangaroo, the announcement of the overall award came as a welcome surprise.
Australian Timber Design Awards said “The judging panel’s reasoning was clear: the Hoskins Building is an extremely well executed building, and a proud beacon for what we should be building in Australia. It brings together design quality, engineering rigour, prefabrication and building performance in a way that shows what timber can deliver for everyday public infrastructure.”
Principal, Dr Julie Greenhalgh said “These awards are a wonderful recognition of a project that leads the way in educational architecture, design and sustainability. We are thrilled that our students enjoy learning in such a beautiful and inspiring space.”
Officially opened in May 2026, the Hoskins Building provides contemporary spaces for teaching and learning, including classrooms, a lecture theatre, STEM facilities and a Junior Library. The building was designed and constructed to internationally recognised PassivHaus standard and features mass timber construction, significantly reducing environmental impact.
The School extends congratulations to the project team: betti and knut architecture, Rohrig, and MostynCooper. We are pleased to share this achievement with the entire School community.
