Expanded Cambridge Course Offering
As the region’s only certified Cambridge International School, Illawarra Grammar is proud to offer students entering Stage 5 the opportunity to study a selection of Cambridge University’s International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) courses.
Places in these classes are limited and allocated through an application process. These courses are intended for students seeking an academic challenge and who have demonstrated a high level of commitment and achievement in their studies during Years 7 and 8. The courses require a two-year commitment across Years 9 and 10.
Students who study Cambridge courses at Illawarra Grammar sit externally assessed IGCSE examinations towards the end of Year 10. The IGCSE qualification is widely recognised by universities and employers around the world, making it a valuable foundation for further study and future career opportunities.
Current students wishing to apply for a Cambridge pathway in Year 9 should register their interest through the subject selection process.
The Cambridge IGCSE educational program shapes learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills through an academically rigorous curriculum, fostering critical thinking, creativity and resilience. This program not only equips students with the intellectual tools needed to excel academically, but also develops qualities essential for thriving in diverse real-world contexts, both within and beyond the classroom. The Cambridge IGCSE qualification opens doors to top-ranked universities in every part of the world.
In 2027, there will be the opportunity to study two IGSCE courses: Co-ordinated Science and Economics.
