Junior School Staffing

Last week, I wrote to our Junior School families with the happy news of the appointment of Mr Oscar Jorgensen-Hull as the new Director of Teaching and Learning in the Junior School. This week, parents of students in K-2 were also informed that Mrs Megan Arnet will be moving to the Junior School from the Piper Centre to teach Class 2J, and Mrs Cook will be the Stage Coordinator of these classes.

This will mean that our senior staff in the Junior School from Term II will be as follows:

  • Head of Junior School: Mrs Jessica Ford
  • Director of Academic and Pastoral Care: Mrs Jessica Allard
  • Director of Campus: Mrs Rebecca Grneski
  • Director of Teaching and Learning: Mr Oscar Jorgensen-Hull
  • Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 Coordinator: Mrs Kylie Cook
  • Stage 2 Coordinator: Mr Andy Richards
  • Stage 3 Coordinator: Mrs Rebecca Young.

Thank you to parents for your patience as we worked through this process to accommodate the departure of Ms Clayton. I am delighted with our new team, and am confident that we have the expertise and energy to provide our youngest students with an excellent education.

Uniform Update

School swimwear will become compulsory from Term I 2027, to support both modesty and safety during all water‑based school activities. If your son or daughter is participating in water activities next term and beyond, please consider purchasing the school swimming costume. School swimwear is encouraged for 2026 but will not be mandatory until Term I 2027.

Parents are reminded that the students move into the winter uniform in Term II. The Uniform Shop is still located in Dapto, but will be relocating in the June/July holidays back to the Senior School when we transfer to our new supplier.

Student Successes

Thank you to the parents who have sent through updates of their children’s successes outside school. We enjoy being able to congratulate the students in class or Assembly, and to learn more about their talents and achievements.

Please be reminded that we are unable to publish photos that include other children without the express permission of that child’s parents. It is probably easier, therefore, to send through photos that only include an image of your child.

Senior School News

Mr Paul Vickers
Head of Senior School

Across my first term here at Illawarra Grammar, I have been pleased at how often I am in conversation about the habits and routines that help young people flourish. Habits and routines form the basis of a strong academic culture, where students take ownership of their learning and make use of the opportunities available to them. Our Saturday Library program for Years 10-12 offers a clear indicator of these habits, and the early signs in 2026 are encouraging.

Over the last five Saturdays, one quarter of Year 11 and 12 students have attended the Goodhew Library on a Saturday to study. For early Term I, this level of voluntary engagement shows motivation, responsibility and emerging academic maturity.

The Saturday Library remains available to all students in Years 10 to 12 from 9am – 2pm, with alumni tutors in attendance throughout this time. We encourage families to discuss how this routine might support their child’s learning this year.

A similar commitment to positive habits has borne success for our swimmers at the CASA Swimming Carnival, where Illawarra Grammar was crowned Champion School. Congratulations to all participants for your discipline, teamwork and consistent commitment to excellence.

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them.

Genesis 1:27

Last week in Junior School Chapel we explored the wonderful truth that human beings are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27). Christians have long said this means every person possesses “immeasurable worth” simply because they are made by God. But the Bible also suggests something more: we were created to be like mirrors, reflecting God’s character to one another. So what is God like? Jesus shows us perfectly: full of love, grace and truth. And as God’s Spirit grows in us qualities like love, joy and patience, we too begin to reflect something of who God is to the people around us.
