Mr Chris Breheny – Director of Academic Excellence

Tell us a little about your job?

As the Director of Academic Excellence, I work with the expert staff at TIGS in the ongoing refinement of our practice to ensure we are optimising teaching and learning. As an English teacher, I strive to develop my students’ literacy skills, cultivate an appreciation of great literature, and challenge them to embrace the struggle of learning as a necessary conduit to growth.

How long have you worked at TIGS?

Just four weeks.

What is the best part of your day?

It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the young women and young men at TIGS. From working with students in the classroom to collaborating with staff on ways to drive improvement in learning and wellbeing outcomes, the day-to-day interactions that work towards building a thriving school community are the most fulfilling part of being an educator at TIGS.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realise this, and you will find strength.” ― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

What’s your favourite book?

The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
