New Northern Suburbs Bus Service

April 11, 2024

The Illawarra Grammar School would like to announce the commencement of a new paid transport alternative, for students travelling from the northern Illawarra suburbs. The TIGS Charter Service, operated by Premier Buses, will include full size buses that will pick up at all public bus stops along the Princes Hwy in the north. TIGS is excited to offer this hybrid transport option to some of our community as a first step in responding to the needs of our families, with a wider review of our transport services being conducted in the second half of 2024.

Each weekday, this new service will depart from Coledale Public School Bus Stop at 7.40am and travel south along the Princes Hwy. Once it has reached the Railway Street intersection at Corrimal, it will turn left and then right onto Memorial Drive (The Northern Distributor). From here the service will continue to the drop off point at Western Avenue, Mangerton. We anticipate having students arrive at school by around 8.25am, traffic permitting.

In the afternoon, the students will depart from the bus stop on the corner of Western Avenue and Woodlawn Avenue, a very short distance from where the current North Wollongong Railway Station service picks up each afternoon. The service will continue along Memorial Drive until turning left at Railway Street, Corrimal, where it will commence the highway drop off service, at each of the public bus stops until reaching Coledale Public School.

Please find a proposed timetable below.

The cost of the service will be $3.50 per trip; the School is subsidising this payment. Families will have the flexibility to use the service as frequently or as little as they wish.

The service will operate utilising ‘Tap On’ technology, where each student wishing to use the service will be issued a TIGS smart card. This card will be required to be pre loaded with funds, prior to travel. The cards will be issued by the School in Week 1 of Term II. Along with the cards, there will be an information pack and parents and/or students will be required to download an App to manage the payments on the smart cards. Visit TransportMe for more information on the payment system. TIGS will provide direct information on how to set up your account and smartcard, once they are issued. The service will commence in Week 2 of Term II to provide time for the issuing of TIGS smart cards.

More information will follow early in Term II.
