Junior School
Welcome to The Illawarra Grammar School
On the first day of School, students are asked to present to the Junior School Office at 8.45am.
Students are required to wear their full uniform.
What to bring in your TIGS school bag:
-
- A water bottle, recess, lunch and snack
- A school hat every day (no hat, no play)
- A raincoat every day
All stationery is supplied.
Please make sure everything is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
How the School communicates with parents and carers:
- Consent2Go – Used for excursion permissions and other activity approvals. View our guide to Consent2Go here.
- OLLE – The main hub for year group-specific information, including homework, assessments, cocurricular activities, calendars, timetables, attendance and daily school operations such as the canteen, transport and uniform updates. View our guide to OLLE here.
- Newsletter – A fortnightly update featuring news and important announcements. It is emailed to parents and available on OLLE and the School’s website.
- SeeSaw – Teachers will share classroom specific updates and assessment feedback.
New students and parents will receive access to each of these channels upon commencement.
In urgent situations, particularly those involving unexpected or time-sensitive events, the School may also send an email or text message.
How parents and carers can communicate with the School:
- Diary – Ideal for quick correspondence, such as uniform issues or incomplete homework.
- Email – Queries can be directed to the classroom teacher, relevant contact details are available on your child’s year group OLLE page.
- Phone – For urgent matters, please contact the Junior School Reception: 4220 0250

Our students wear their uniforms with pride and are expected to maintain high personal standards of presentation.
The Uniform Shop is operated by Perm-A-Pleat and located at 2 Marshall Rd, Dapto NSW 2530.
Booking an appointment is recommended for new student fit-outs and at busy times, such as during ‘back to school’ and the transition between winter and summer uniforms. Book an appointment here.
During the winter school holidays, trading hours for Perm-A-Pleat remain unchanged:
- Tuesday: 8.00am – 12.30pm
- Wednesday: 1.00pm – 5.30pm
- Thursday: 10.00am – 6.00pm
- Saturday: 9.00am – 1.00pm
Second-Hand Uniform Shop
Our P&F Association run a Second-Hand Uniform Shop on site at the School, just near the car park off Western Ave. It is open each Thursday from 8.30am-10.00am and on the first Saturday of the month from 8.30am-9.30am. School holiday hours may differ – check the latest newsletter for more details.
Winter School Holiday Trading Hours:
- Thursday 17 July: 9.00am – 10.00am
- Saturday 19 July: 12.00pm – 1.00pm
We publish our term dates as far in advance as possible to ensure families can plan holidays during school holiday time.
Occasionally, ‘Staff only days’ occur during term time, PEAK Vacation Care is available on those days.

Junior School daily timings:
8.00am – Limited playground supervision
8.20am – Playground supervision commences
8.45am – Junior School commences
3.00pm – Car line for K to Year 2 students
3.10pm – Car line for Year 3 to 6 students

Students interested in music tuition and performance are welcome to join Illawarra Grammar’s Music Academy, at an additional cost.
Specialist tutors provide weekly lessons on a range of instruments to our students; a full list is detailed in the application form below. The lessons are held in our dedicated music tuition rooms during the school day on a rotational timetable, with some tutors offering before and after school options. There is also a range of ensembles for students to participate in.
We ask any families wishing to participate to complete the online application form.

At Illawarra Grammar, we offer a diverse range of sports for our students to participate in, before, during and after school.
Every student has the opportunity to play sport for fun or competitively. We foster the growth of talented athletes, providing abundant opportunities and expert coaching to develop their skills and represent the School at local, state and national levels.
Travelling by bus
At Illawarra Grammar, students have access to a variety of convenient transportation options. This includes private buses, public buses for our students only, train station transfer and after-hours buses.
Our drop-off and pick-up point for Junior School students travelling by car is at our Princes Highway entrance, where we provide a car-line system. A staff member will greet your vehicle and assist your child with all their belongings.
To ensure a smooth and safe drop-off and pick-up process, please follow these guidelines:
Morning Drop-Off
- The inside lane (right hand lane) is designated for Piper Centre parking only. Please do not use this lane for Junior School drop-off.
Afternoon Pick-Up
- The middle lane must remain clear until 3.00pm to allow for vehicle manoeuvring.
- Kindergarten – Year 2 students | pick up between 3.00pm-3.10pm (for students with no siblings in Year 3-6)
- Years 3 – 6 students (and K-2 siblings) | pick up between 3.10pm-3.40pm
- Families picking up from The Piper Centre are strongly encouraged to arrive before 2.30pm or after 3.30pm to help ease congestion.
There are a range of cocurricular activities for students to participate in, from art to sport to music and more. These activities take place before and after School, as well as during lunchtime.

On behalf of the P&F, we would like to extend a warm welcome to parents and families of The Illawarra Grammar School. I encourage you to read more about the activities of the P&F in our 2025 welcome letter.
There are four main ways you can be involved:
- Attend P&F Meetings and the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- Volunteer for P&F events and the Second-Hand Uniform Shop
- Become a Year Group Representative and/or nominate for an executive position
- Join parent events like our monthly coffee mornings and parent drinks/family catch ups

PEAK Sports and Learning provides the Outside School Hours Care service at Illawarra Grammar in Rees Hall in Junior School.
Children attending PEAK enjoy a range of creative and sports activities. Breakfast and afternoon tea are provided, ensuring healthy food options are available.
