Cold Weather

It seems many years since we have experienced a winter as severe as the one that we are currently facing. Furthermore, there seem to be many  illnesses in the local community – we have staff and students suffering from influenza, and COVID is still prevalent.

All parents are reminded to keep unwell children at home until they are no longer contagious, and to regularly maintain the vaccinations of their children as appropriate. I have also spoken to many students who do not possess a school jumper and ask all parents to acquire this item of school clothing for their children. For sustainability reasons, we do not overheat our classrooms, so students really need a jumper (as well as the blazer) to keep warm in these colder months.

New Staff Members

One of the challenges of Term III every year is planning for the staffing needs of the next year. And this is certainly the case in 2025.

We have some staffing vacancies for next year. Not only is the growth of the School requiring additional staff, we have a few staff who are retiring or leaving us to undertake further study, relocation or promotional positions. Consequently, we have been advertising for the past two weeks.

It has been a wonderful blessing to read the applications from people who would like to work at Illawarra Grammar. One of the many advantages of developing a reputation as a school that takes teaching and learning seriously is that competent teachers want to work with us. At a time when there is a dearth of teachers across NSW, I am so relieved and grateful that we have such a pool of talent from which to choose our new teachers.

I’ll keep the community posted as new appointments are made, of course.

Strategic Plan

Thank you to those parents who have contacted the School acknowledging the work that has gone into the latest Strategic Plan, Educating for the Future. Since its release, the School’s Leadership Team has spent a considerable amount of time allocating the responsibility for the many strategies and steps involved in achieving the various goals that were listed in the Plan.

Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

James 2:17

In Junior School Chapel this term, our series Faith in Action has reminded us that true trust in God doesn’t stay hidden in our hearts, it always shows itself in how we live. As James writes, ‘Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead’ (James 2:17). Each week, we’ve explored a different Bible story where ordinary people put their faith into action: Abraham trusted without a map, Joseph forgave his brothers, Moses found courage before Pharaoh, Esther risked everything for others, Ruth stayed loyal in friendship and more. The bottom line is: faith isn’t just believing in God; it’s living boldly because we trust the Creator of heaven and earth.
