State Futsal Championships
U10 Boys and Girls
Our Junior Boys and Girls recently embarked on an exciting journey to the State Futsal School’s Championships held at Windsor, and they’ve returned with incredible tales of determination, teamwork, and unforgettable matches.
The tournament showcased not just fabulous football but also exemplary teamwork and unwavering effort. Both the boys and girls gave it their all on the Futsal court.
The Boys team started strong in their pool games, securing victories against Nareena Hills Public and Lawson Public School. They displayed remarkable resilience even in their narrow defeats to Amity College and Norwest College, ultimately earning them a commendable fourth place in their pool. Congratulations to our boys for their excellent skills and teamwork, which have developed impressively over the year.
Our Girls team had an equally inspiring journey. They navigated their pool games with strong play, securing two wins, a draw, and two closely contested matches. On qualifying for the finals series, they drew inspiration from the Matilda’s recent World Cup performance and showcased incredible energy, grit and a rock-solid defense.
The girls faced St. Spyridon in the quarter-finals, where they displayed nerves of steel and determination. After a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time, they triumphed in a thrilling penalty shootout, emerging victorious with a 4-3 scoreline. In the final, our girls displayed even greater determination against a skilled Moriah College team. The match was fiercely contested and ultimately decided in extra time by a well-struck golden goal, leaving us narrowly defeated at 0-1. Nevertheless, the girls’ journey and performance were nothing short of outstanding.
Congratulations to our girls for their incredible top-four finish in the state! Their result is a testament to their dedication, teamwork, skill and positional development.

U14 Girls
TIGS U14 Girls Futsal Team also competed at the State Futsal Championships. Having successfully progressed through from the regional level, the girls competed exceptionally well.
The first game against St Matthews Catholic School resulted in a 1-0 victory and was a chance for the girls to try playing the formations that Mr Gardiner had developed in training. The following game proved difficult against Mamre Anglican College with a 2-0 loss. The team fought hard in the 3rd round with a 2-1 win against Thomas Hassall Anglican College, which was followed up with a 1-1 draw against the skillful team from Endeavour Sports High School. Playing Dubbo Christian School in the final round resulted in another victory to TIGS with a 2-0 result.
Despite only one loss in the initial pool rounds, TIGS did not proceed to the quarter finals on this occasion, however, their progression and teamwork throughout the day was commendable and we can look forward to further positive results in the coming years.

U16 Boys
The TIGS U16 Boys Futsal team made their mark at the State Futsal Championships, facing formidable competition in their pool. Despite the challenges, the boys displayed unwavering determination and teamwork. They secured a respectable third-place finish in their pool, clinching one hard-fought victory and narrowly missing out on two closely contested games that could have swung either way.

Primary CIS Athletics Championships
The CIS Athletics Championships, held at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre on Tuesday September 19, saw remarkable individual and team performances with many personal bests achieved.
The Junior and Senior boys and girls relay teams improved their NASSA qualifying times by three seconds, highlighting their determination, teamwork and precision in baton changes. The Junior Girls team, comprising Nissi, Ava, Kirra, and Rayna, secured an impressive 5th place overall, demonstrating their talent and synergy.
Top 10 Finishers:
- Ava Leung delivered a spectacular performance, clinching 2nd place in a personal best time of 14:46 in the 10 Years 100m, qualifying for the NSWPSSA Championships in Term IV.
- Hudson Rayner cleared 1.25m and finished 5th in the Junior High Jump, displaying exceptional composure and technique.
- Oscar Sheppard secured 7th place in the Junior 1500m in 5:31.00, a testament to his endurance strength against older competitors.
- Emily Clark cleared 1:30m in the High Jump and finished 8th, a credible performance on return from a foot injury.
- Chloe Greenhalgh jumped a personal best, 3.93m, in the 11 years Long Jump, finishing 9th.
- Rayna Chieng finished 10th in the Junior Long Jump, recording a personal best of 3.55m.
These outstanding achievements are a testament to the dedication and talent of the athletes. Many have consistently attended training at school or on Thursday mornings at Beaton Park. Congratulations to all the participants on their performance!

NSWPSSA Athletics
Following her outstanding performance at CIS Athletics, Ava Leung was selected into the NSWCIS Team to compete at the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships, which were held at SOPAC over two days last week. Ava performed remarkably well in her 10yr Girls 100m Heat, qualifying for the semi-final with a time of 14.80s. With a difficult headwind for the semi-final, Ava improved on her position after the Heats, narrowly missing a spot in the Final by 0.05s finishing in 13th position. Congratulations to Ava on reaching this level of competition, and a big thanks to TIGS Athletics coach, Ian Hatfield who was on hand to assist Ava over the two days.
CIS Athletics Championships
The CIS Athletics Championships were held in the late afternoon and evening of Tuesday 19 September at Homebush. It was an outstanding showing from TIGS. Of the 12 athletes that represented the School, six of them came away with medals. A particular congratulations go to Zacariah Rusin, who finished in the top three in all of his events, and Loen Sevastos, who won gold in the 17G 400m.

NSW All Schools Athletics Championships
The NSW All Schools Athletics Championships were held across two weekends over the Term 3 holidays. TIGS had 7 students competing throughout the event, with all of them giving their all against the best athletes in the state. A particular congratulations goes to Loen Sevastos and Michael Mitchell who broke their PB’s in their events and came away with medals. Results were as follows:

TIGS v Shellharbour Football Cup
TIGS vs Shellharbour Football Cup took place with exciting matches across various age categories. In the Year 7/8 Girls game, Shellharbour Anglican College (SAC) emerged victorious, narrowly defeating TIGS with a score of 3-2. The Year 7/8 Boys game saw TIGS turn the tables, beating SAC 1-0 in a closely contested match.
Moving on to the Year 9/10 category, the girls’ game was marked by an impressive performance from TIGS. With scores level at 1-1 at half-time, TIGS had a strong second half, going on to win 4-2. However, in the Year 9/10 Boys game, TIGS dominated the match but narrowly lost 1-0 to SAC.
The tournament concluded with both TIGS and SAC tied at 6 points each. TIGS clinched the trophy based on goal difference, retaining their championship title. This event showcased great sportsmanship and competitive spirit among the teams, making it a memorable day for all involved.

Girls Rugby 7’s Exhibition Match
At the end of last term, TIGS Open Girls participated in a warm-up Rugby 7s match for the Tonga Schoolboys v NAC Barbarians game. The Open Girls team had a great experience, scoring tries against NAC’s team and the Illawarra Representative team. A big thank you to Dale Ledger for lending his wealth of rugby knowledge to the team and assisting with the coaching on the day.

South Coast Rugby 7’s Gala Days
Boys’ U17s
The day began with a win against St John’s, before narrow losses to Shellharbour Anglican and Holy Spirit. In the 5v6 final against Kiama High, a close game was settled by a breakaway Kiama try in the final minute. TIGS’ top tryscorer was Hamish Chaffer with 3 tries across the day. Honourable mentions go to Digby Hemmes for quick movement of the ball from the ruck, and Riley Baird for committing multiple defenders when attacking. Player of the day, voted for by players and coaches, was Hugh Garrett who ran hard and created space in every game, assisting line breaks for teammates as well as making his own metres.
Boys’ U15s
A young TIGS team stepped up to the U15 division and made a strong impression with their speed and tackle technique. The first game ended 7-7 against St Joseph’s, before heavy losses to much older teams from Holy Spirit and Edmund Rice. In the final pool game the boys ran a very creditable 3 tries past Kiama in a narrow loss. In the final, TIGS scored 2 tries each half to win a close game against Bomaderry 22-19. TIGS’ top tryscorer was Daniel Llewellin with 3 tries across the day. Honourable mentions go to Joe Sommerville for resilient tackling and great passing and Daniel Llewellin for his vision and devastating turn of pace, even at the end of the final game. Player of the day, voted for by players and coaches, was Leon Do who ran the game from the centre of the field, finding and using space effectively and always taking the team forward when he had the ball.
Girls’ U15s
After team injuries affected our preparation, TIGS girls modified the game to invent ‘Rugby 6s.’ The first game was a steep learning curve for TIGS’ girls who got stuck into their first ever tackles, eventually losing 7-33 to Warilla High school, Grace Lane impressing with several strong tackles and a breakaway try. In the second game TIGS were runaway winners, 29-7 against Picton High School, with Lulu Ding the standout player, sidestepping opponents and causing havoc in attack. The third game was a hard-fought 7-26 loss to St Joseph’s, and as TIGS’ girls tired they went down 7-39 in the next game against Holy Spirit. Not deterred at all, the girls finished the day with a thrilling 24-21 win against Kanahooka High School, Grace Rutty making the highlights reel with a strong carry that took her over the try line with three opponents on her back unable to stop her. For a first experience playing Rugby, the day was a great success.
Honorable mentions go to Evelyn Sanzone for her speed and commitment making metres all over the pitch, and Edie Taggart who consistently turned over the ball and made no less than three try-saving tackles across the day. Player of the day, voted for by players and coaches, was Matilda Pead. Despite playing in an age group two years up, Matilda was our top tackler, ran with intent and moved the ball smartly, and by the end of the day was even pilfering at rucks like an experienced flanker.
Cricket
NASSA Yr 9-11 and Primary Gala Days
On Wednesday 18 October, the Year 9-11 Boys Cricket Team played in the NASSA Cricket Gala Day. The boys began their campaign positively, setting Macarthur Anglican School 75 runs to win, after a great knock of 47 from Wyatt Toland. TIGS was then able to hold MAS to 2/63, with Harrison Deck and Saksham Sirohi taking wickets. After their first win, the second game against eventual winners, Georges River Grammar, was a much closer match, coming down to the final ball. GRG finished their first innings at 3/77, with Aidan Vardy taking two wickets. TIGS batted well, taking the game down to the wire, with Harrison Deck scoring 39 runs, only to be given out LBW with two balls remaining and two runs short of the total. The boys were not able to put the game away, and lost the game by one run. The final game against St Lukes saw TIGS batting first and setting St Lukes a total of 35. TIGS was unable to defend their total, with St Lukes winning the game comfortably. Overall, it was a great day of cricket, with the boys displaying excellent sportsmanship and camaraderie. A big thanks goes to Matt Davidson for assisting with scoring on the day.

The Primary NASSA Cricket Gala Day was held at the same venue the following day, and TIGS once again put on a fine showing through the day. The first game against eventual winners, Macarthur Anglican School, was a great opportunity for the team to develop as players and gel as a team. TIGS batted first, and set a respectable target of 48 from 7 overs, after a great batting innings from Xavier Knight. Macarthur were able to run the score down fairly comfortably, but there were some encouraging signs in the bowling of TIGS, particularly from Emily Clark and Arjun Malik. In the second game against Wollondilly Anglican College, TIGS dominated the game, restricting WAC to 2/34 and then chasing down the runs in the second last over, with contributions from Lucas Meades and James Rutty. TIGS then met St Luke’s Grammar.in the final game. Facing some excellent bowling, TIGS struggled to find a rhythm with the bat and finished their innings on 5/31, with Xavier and Lucas once again contributing to the runs. St Lukes was then able to run down the total comfortably with some excellent batting.
It was a wonderful day of cricket for our team. They all grew as cricketers and were excellent ambassadors for the school throughout the day. A big thank you goes to Mahadev Patil for assisting with the scoring and umpiring for the day.

Douglas Shield Cricket
On Monday 23 October, TIGS Open Cricket Team travelled to Shoalhaven Heads to play against Nowra Anglican College (NAC) in the opening round of the Douglas Shield cricket competition. After losing the toss and bowling first, Tyler Davidson and Samuel Robinson opened the bowling with some excellent, consistent pace bowling. Samuel made the first breakthrough in the fourth over and the hosts were 1/8. While the TIGS bowlers were able to keep NAC to a run rate of just under 4 per over, they couldn’t break the batting partnership until the 22nd over when Harrison Deck bowled their top run scorer. From there the wickets gradually fell, with TIGS bowling NAC out in the final over for 177 runs (Adams: 2/15, Deck: 2/21, Davidson: 2/23). TIGS made a positive start to the run chase, scoring above the required run-rate without a wicket for the first 5 overs. After losing two quick wickets in the sixth over, the run rate didn’t slow down, with Wyatt Toland (36) looking solid with the bat. While TIGS was on target with the run-rate, unfortunately the wickets contented to fall and TIGS we left with 80 runs still to score, with only two wickets remaining. An excellent last wicket partnership between Harley Adams (18) and Samarth Sirohi (6) saw TIGS come within 46 runs of the total, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough for the win.
Well done to the boys for putting on a gallant effort and displaying excellent sportsmanship through the day. Thanks once again goes to Matt Davidson for his assistance with umpiring and scoring on the day.

AFL
NASSA Primary AFL Gala Day
On Tuesday, 24 October, 14 students from Years 5 and 6 travelled up to Hoxton Park, Liverpool to compete in the NASSA Primary AFL Gala Day. The team was buzzing with anticipation, eager to play AFL and compete against other schools. With over half the students having never played AFL before, the team knew that what would make them successful was their teamwork and sportsmanship, which they acted upon triumphantly.
Throughout the day, the team played tremendously, with each player proving a force to be reckoned with. Although playing 5 games consecutively in 35-degree heat proved tiresome, their positive attitude and excitement shone through. In the end, the TIGS team came 3rd overall and should feel incredibly proud of their achievements.
