NASSA Primary Swimming Carnival
The NASSA Primary Swimming Carnival was held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) on the evening of Tuesday 28 February. Our team was represented by over 30 swimmers, all of whom put in a very strong performance for their School. Some highlights of the night included:
- All of our relay teams finishing in the Top 3, and qualifying to compete at CIS;
- The Best of the Best relay team, featuring James Rutty, Kirra Oxman, Oscar Sheppard and Zali-Rose McIlwraith, winning their race.
- Kirra Oxman placing 2nd as 10yr Girls Age Champion
- Ziyu Han placing 3rd as 10yr Girls Age Champion
Congratulations to the following students who qualified to compete at the CIS Championships, to be held at SOPAC next week: Mia Boardman, Rayna Chieng, Leo Gao, Chloe Greenhalgh, Ziyu Han, Eva Heritage, Madeleine MacKay, Zali-Rose McIlwraith, Kirra Oxman, Jade Pilkington, Yuqiao Ren, James Rutty, Oscar Sheppard, Rio Sheppard, Xiojia Tang, Jayden Wang and Jesse Woods.
Douglas Shield and Wiburd Shield Cricket
Our Year 10 to Year 12 and Year 8 to Year 10 cricket teams played a T20 game each against Nowra Anglican College in the repechage rounds of the Douglas Shield and Wiburd Shield competitions during the first 5 weeks of Term II. In the Douglas Shield game, our Year 10 to Year 12 team was almost able to chase down Nowra’s 148, falling just short, on 141. Highlights of the game included Tyler Davidson’s 3/18 and Aidan Vardy’s 68 runs from 43 balls. In the Wiburd Shield game, our Year 8 to Year 10 team bowled well, keeping Nowra to 117, but were unable to chase the runs down, finishing on 8-94. Highlights of the game were Saksham Sirohi’s 3/19 and Wyatt Toland’s 19 from 17 balls.
2023 Interschool Mountain Bike Championships, Thredbo
In ever changing conditions, from snow, torrential rain, high wind gusts that shut chair lifts to beautiful blue skies and perfect riding conditions, 34 students from Year 4 to Year 12 competed in the Australian Interschool Mountain Bike Championships last week in Thredbo.
Competition was of a high standard with over 1500 students riding throughout the week. We had some outstanding riders over the week in both the team and individual events.
Annie Martin – Year 9 competed in all 4 events across the week, placing 2nd overall in the Queen of the Mountain, an outstanding performance. A wonderful outcome as a result of her tenacious and fearless riding during the competition.
Our Year 4 boys’ team Ethan Murray, Alexandre Lahore-Lahitte and Charles Hughes, placed second in the X-Country; for some it was their first time riding at Thredbo. The Year 7 to Year 8 boys team consisting of Michael Mitchell, Luke Hughes, Baden Balding placed in the Top 20 in the X-Country; again an excellent result in a field of over 300 competitors.
The senior boys Michael Murray, Riley Baird, James Brewer and Hamish Chaffer – Year 11, performed consistently throughout the competition, each rider throughout the competition placing in the Top 20 in a variety of runs.
Congratulations to all students who competed over the week, it was a wonderful time where students challenged themselves, trying tracks they had never ridden before. A great week of riding and development of mountain bike skills. Thank you to the parents that came along to support our students.
AICES Tennis Cup
It was a fortuitous day in Blacktown on Thursday 9 March as our boys tennis team took to the courts at the AICES Tennis Cup. After a good tussle with Moriah College we eventually came out on top and then defeated Rouse Hill, setting up a final showdown with Central Coast Sports College. Alexander Mpimperias, Ben Harman, Ishe Chibanda, Gautham Lakshmanan Dev and Samarth Sirohi brought their best tennis of the day in a hotly contested battle-royal against CCSC but eventually went down to a stronger opponent. The boys were gracious in defeat and are to be commended on picking up the silver medal. Great tennis, brilliant attitudes and teamwork were the emerging themes of the day.
AICES Touch Football
On Tuesday 14 March, 8 TIGS students represented NASSA at the AICES Touch Football Championships, held in Parramatta. In wet conditions, that made controlling the ball quite difficult, all of our students made strong contributions to their teams. The Open Boys team, represented by Samuel Lowe, Jagger Leith and Samuel Morris was the best performing team, finishing the day as runners up. The 15B team, represented by Alexander MacKay, Jude Taylor-Chamberlain and Daniel Llewellin, and the Open Girls Team, represented by Caitlin Loudon and Tayla Tregonning finished in 6th and 5th respectively.
