THE WATER GIFT
Last week, I had the pleasure of spending an hour every afternoon working alongside Year 9 and Year 10 students who volunteered their time to help provide displaced and vulnerable families in Myanmar and Cambodia with safe drinking water. The activity, initiated and overseen by Dr Martin Butson and a small team of family and friends (many of whom are TIGS alumni), involves making small stickers that can be affixed to any clear plastic or glass bottle that change colour when sufficient UV rays have been received to render the contents safe from pathogens.
I am pleased to announce that over the course of the week, TIGS students made a collective total of more than 50,000 of these life-saving stickers and the fruits of their labour are already being distributed to families in great need.

YEAR 12 Trivia night
The Year 12 Trivia Night is always a significant event during the Term II calendar. Each year, the event raises funds for our chosen charity which, this year, is Women Illawarra. Tickets are selling fast so if you haven’t already booked a table, I encourage you to do so over the coming days.
As in previous years, the event will have a specific theme – this year’s being ‘Old Hollywood’. Attendees are encouraged to BYO, but please note refreshments in keeping with the theme of the night will be available during the event.

YEAR 10 UPDATE
During the course of this year, our Year 10s will be afforded a number of new opportunities and privileges as we seek to more demonstrably position them as senior students in the School.
- In a few weeks, Year 10 students will have access to new lockers which will be located in Senior Square.
- From Term IV, when we revert to Summer Uniform, Year 10 students will be permitted to wear the Senior Uniform, which they will then continue to wear throughout Year 11 and Year 12.
- On 25 and 26 November, all Year 10 students will attend a two-day seminar held at School with a focus on preparation for applications to university and the workplace.
STRONG FUTURES
As students move through Senior School, it is vitally important that they are increasingly clearsighted about their future aspirations and goals. Students in Year 10 and Year 12 have regular careers-based learning opportunities on their timetables, but any student is able to make an appointment to meet with our Careers Advisor, Mrs Glenis Murphy, at any time to discuss university applications, work experience opportunities and the transition from school to higher education, vocational training or the workplace.
