Database Administrator

The Illawarra Grammar School is an independent co-educational P-12 Anglican Grammar School. Your new role:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Database Administrator to join our ICT team in a permanent full time capacity. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance of the School’s databases with the ability to drive positive development of systems and solutions. Your expertise in SQL will be crucial in ensuring the performance, availability, and security of the School’s database systems. It is fast paced and impactful work supported by aligned purpose, values and engaged staff, students and parents.

The Database Administrator  provides critical front-line service and support to ensure maximum access to and implementation of technology services and resources. This position provides support to the Manager of Information Services to develop solutions for the Schools ICT requirements.

Additional information

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Install, configure and update database servers. 
  • Monitor and maintain database systems health, integrity and security. 
  • Create and maintain reports/data extracts throughout the School’s information systems. 
  • Analyse database performance and carry out performance tuning and maintenance. 
  • Developing, managing and testing database backup and recovery plans. 
  • Create database management procedures and procedural documents. 
  • Troubleshoot and provide proactive support for the School’s systems. 
  • Other tasks as directed by Line Manger. 

Skill requirements include: 

  • Proficiency in SQL database language. 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse, troubleshoot, support and maintain database systems.
  • Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to learn new processes and/or systems. 
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Work effectively in a team environment as well as independently. 

Desirable skills: 

  • Previous experience in the education and/or IT sector. 
  • Ability to learn new computer languages.
  • Experience managing Windows and Linux servers. 
  • Undergraduate degree (or TAFE equivalent) in computer science or Information Technology.

Referees nominated should be readily accessible and advised by the applicant so they may be contacted by the School. Two should be known to the applicant professionally and it is preferred that one be from a Minister of Religion.

4. For academic positions, provide proof of academic qualifications

  1. A copy of all academic transcripts/qualifications is required with your application. Qualifications gained outside of Australia must be recognised by the NSW Educations Standards Authority (NESA), or equivalent authority.
  2. Philosophical and pedagogical statement. This document will outline your stance in relation to the position, allowing the demonstration of alignment between your own world view and the School’s Statement of Mission and Values.
  3. Up-to-date statements of service.
  4. Evidence of accreditation with the NSW Institute of Teachers (for those qualified after October 2004).
  5. Proof of accreditation (an accreditation card, a letter from the NSW Institute of Teachers) or proof of employment as a teacher in NSW within the last five years.
