Academic Program

Academic Program

At The Illawarra Grammar School the following academic subjects are available:

Year 7
Students study Christian Studies, English, French, History, Japanese, Mathematics, Music, PD/Health/PE, Science, and Technology.

Year 8
Students study Christian Studies, English, French, Geography, Japanese, Mathematics, PD/Health/PE, Science, Technology, and Visual Arts.

An off-line Music program is offered to Year 8 students. This is a wonderful opportunity to continue their Music studies by learning a musical instrument.

Years 9 and 10
Students study the compulsory subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Christian Studies, Personal Development Health and Physical Education.

They also make two elective choices from: Commerce, Dance, Drama, Physical Activity & Sports Studies, Industrial Technology (Timber), French, Information and Software Technology, Japanese, Music, Photography, Textiles Technology, Visual Arts.

Years 11 and 12
In Year 11 English and Mathematics are compulsory subjects. English is compulsory in Year 12.

Students then choose electives from the following range of subjects: Ancient History, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Dance, Design and Technology, Drama, Earth and Environmental Science, Economics, English Extension 1 and 2, French Continuers and Extension, Geography, Industrial Technology, Information Processes and Technology, Japanese Continuers and Extension, Legal Studies, Mathematics Extension 1 and 2, Modern History, Music 1, Music 2 and Extension, Personal Development Health and Physical Education, Photography Video and Digital Imaging, Physics, Senior Science, Software Design and Development, Textiles and Design, Visual Arts.

Students can also choose to study Vocational Education and Training Subjects (VET) such as: Computing Services, Hospitality, Beauty Therapy, Construction, and Electrical, and other subjects such as Interior Design at private colleges in Sydney.
