Parent Handbook

Parent Handbook

Here at TIGS we want to ensure that there is clear communication between students, parents and the School. Clear communication comes from the concise articulation of the School’s expectations. To achieve this we have developed a number of publications and systems to ensure you are well informed. These include weekly school newsletters, semester publications, updates on our website, subject information booklets, parent evenings and so on.

The information booklet below is designed to answer many of the questions you might have about the day to day functions of the School, the key contact people, the times for various activities, uniform and transport issues and policies.

Keep this booklet handy and use it like a ‘ready reckoner’ and hopefully it will help save time and confusion. The booklet covers students and their activities in the Piper Centre, Junior School and Senior School.

Should there be questions not answered in this booklet, please call the School, 4220 0200, and you will be directed to a member of staff who can help you.

P&F

The TIGS P & F is governed by an executive, comprising of the elected members of both Karobran and Orana.
Karobran and Orana hold meetings once per term with a combined TIGS P & F Annual General Meeting at the end of the School year.

Our aim is to welcome and foster the feeling of belonging to parents and guardians of TIGS students in a friendly atmosphere, offering avenues of communication to the mutual benefit of all TIGS families.  We encourage interaction through initiation and participation in various activities, both social and informative.

We welcome volunteers in every capacity- wide range is included from preparing delicious ethnic food for the Great Fete  through to assisting in the Junior School at events like Book Week or the Big Day in for extended family. Please let us know your interests and availability and we will involve you in the life of the School- grandparents and other family members are very much encouraged to join. One of our most successful fete stalls was conceived, set up and facilitated a few years ago and now continues to run each year till it sells out – all from the brilliant idea of one of our mums with the backup of her mum!

An important part of the TIGS P&F is the Year/Class Representative program in both Orana and Karobran which encourages communication and helps to support individual and specific needs of different year groups.

To ensure that parents are in the communication loop they will receive an email from Karobran asking if you would like to be included on the Karobran Class List.  If you would like to be included simply reply yes and you will automatically be added.

Highlights of the TIGS P & F Year include:

  • The ‘New Parents Evening’ held on Friday 3 February 2017 to welcome new families
  • The ‘TIGS Great Fete’ on Saturday 20 May 2017
  • Big Day In and many more …
