TIGS offers our students a variety of co-curricular music activities, which include ensembles, catering for all levels of performance. The co-curricular Music Program enhances students' instrumental studies and provides them with extensive opportunities for social interaction.
A mandatory instrumental Music Program begins in Year 2 with students being given the option of learning flute, guitar, violin, piano or cello. Specialists on these instruments then tutor the students throughout the year, and are encouraged to participate in the various concerts, which take place during the year. Every Junior School student is a member of a choir, which perform regularly at various functions throughout the year as well as the Wollongong Eisteddfod.
In the Senior School, students continue the mandatory Music Program in Year 7 and 8 and have the option of Music Electives in Years 9-12.
Private music tuition is available to all students with fully qualified, professional musicians conducting the lessons.
Students are encouraged to join one of the many school ensembles, which perform regularly at concerts and school events:
