From the commencement of their schooling in their Kindergarten year at TIGS all students participate in a morning Literacy learning time followed by a Mathematics session prior to lunch. Our students enjoy specialist teaching in Physical Education, Music, Art & Christian Studies each week.
For eLearning each Kindergarten classroom is equipped with a small laboratory of 5 computers and each classroom has an Interactive whiteboard.
Through interactive experiences and activities our Early Stage 1 students are encouraged to be: competent, critical thinkers who listen, who can think analytically and creatively, solve problems, and make decisions; inquirers who negotiate; inventors who collaborate and can work successfully with diverse individuals or in groups; lifelong learners who are self-directed and can apply themselves in different situations.
The foundations of becoming critical thinkers are practised daily in our Kindergarten classrooms through our Primary Years Program Units of Inquiry. Our Early Stage 1 students explore six transdisciplinary themes over the year and are encouraged to engage actively in their individual learning, guided and supported by their teachers. As part of the program students are required to reflect on their learning and act upon it.
Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning how to learn.
